The Global South Institute (GSI) serves the Anglican churches of the African Great Lakes Region and the worldwide Anglican communion as a conservative, evangelical, Christian think-tank in Africa, facilitating research and education opportunities in Mission, Leadership, Public Policy, and Anglican Studies. We are conservative because we believe that the historic Christian faith rooted in the Christian Bible is the best foundation for nurturing entrepreneurial missioners, church leaders, and public policymakers. We are evangelical because our faith expresses itself not only in research, but also in mission, leadership, and public policy outreach shaped by our beliefs. Headquartered at an international Christian University in Uganda, our research and programs take shape and grow in the context of 21st century African cultures having their own rich, albeit often undocumented, theological heritage. As Anglicans, we rejoice at being part of a worldwide communion of Christians seeking to be in faithful covenant relationship with God and each other. Accordingly, our vision is to be a center of excellence in equipping our partner churches in Mission, Leadership, Public Policy, and Anglican Studies. Our home is the Uganda Christian University, just outside Kampala, in Mukono, Uganda. Uganda Christian University, a Christian and Anglican University, was founded in 1997 on the site of Bishop Tucker Theological College, one of the oldest seminaries in Africa. The University has grown from 120 to nearly 4000 students pursuing degrees in Business, Communications, Education, Development Studies, Information Technology, Law, Public Health, Social Work, and Theology. While drawing on the faculty, library, and electronic resources of the University, including its sabbatical residences, GSI helps advance the University’s own broad vision for being a center of Christian academic excellence. |
