Last week, the tenure of Rev. Daniel Button and Doug Fountain expired as leaders of African Areopagus Society. Subsequently, the society elected a new executive from its members and also held the first public presentation this semester. The New Chairman of the society is Rev. Amos Turyahabwe while the new General Secretary is Dismas Bwesigye.
They replace Button and Fountain respectively. At the inauguration of the new executive, Associate Dean, School of Post Graduate Studies, Frederick Kakembo, made the society’s first presentation this semester. The presentation entitled, Biblical Dimensions of Contemporary Scientific Research and Innovations was meant to show scientific support for Biblical facts and the ways through which the two compliment rather than contradict each other. “When they (Areopagus) talked to me about the presentation, I knew their focus and the fact that I am working in a research department, I wanted to combine the two areas of Science and Faith.” Kakembo said. The society is also calling upon interested people to submit topics that they think can add to the growing wealth of knowledge on matters that relate to science and faith. The society intends to hold dialogues fortnightly with new speakers at given meetings. At the moment presentations are based on the individual abilities, the society, however, hopes to invite international speakers in future. The new office bearers include, Ronald Amanyire who is Treasurer, Zac Mulawa, promotions secretary, John Ahumuza Vianney, programme secretary and Grace Iga, the website secretary. Other members include, Monica Ntenge library secretary, Rev. Stanley Wareeba, Liaison secretary for students' affairs and Rev. Simon Feta the secretary for the Test of faith programme. |
