Despite the two weeks to preparation, this semester’s UCU bazaar  kicked off.

It started on 4th May and ran for two weeks. It took place next to the construction site of the new library.
“We have a number of corporate companies and students who have brought their goods for sale,” said UCU’s deputy internal affairs minister James Lule.
“The major aim of organising the bazaar was bringing services closer to the students, and not making money for the guild,”he added.
Lule also said that companies  either payed money or did so in kind.
“Some companies like Coca cola and Pepsi offered us tents, which the students are using to display their goods and products. Others like Centenary Bank  paid 150,000 shillings,”he said.
For students,it was free. It was just a matter of writing to the guild requesting to be allowed to display ones goods.

The products on sale ranged from phones, cosmetics, crafts to foods and beverages.
“We’re exhibiting phones, SIM cards, registering for M-Sente, promoting payment of water bills.” explained the UTL dealers’ manager, Mr. James Ssemambo.
Asked on how the turn-up was, Sheila Atukunda a student selling cosmetics, fried sausages, said there were “more sellers than buyers.”
The poor turned was blamed on the weather, an registration.
Some companies were not invited, like those of alcoholic drinks and the key cutting industry.
The bazaar ended on 14th of May, with a corporate gala night.
