clinic staff give a gift to outgoing colleagueprof.Tim Smith and his wife at farewellAt lunch time on Wednesday the 22nd of this month, all roads led to the VC’s gardens. UCU members of staff were saying goodbye to their long serving colleagues. The people that were leaving included: Rev. Daniel Button and his wife Rosie, Violet Kayamba who had been working in the accounts  office, Ms Miriam Katumba, formerly a nurse in Allan Galpin Health Centre and Prof Smith a visiting academic who had been helping in the Faculty of Social Sciences.
Speaker after speaker thanked the departing members for their service to the university and expressed how deeply the institution was going to miss them.
These managed to punctuate their speeches with rib cracking jokes that left the audience laughing  their heads off. Doug Fountain talked of how he had taken over the board game championship now that the Buttons had gone away. “I must say that the Buttons were constantly harassing some of us at board games,” he said.
