Over 130 UCU students and staff have registered for this semester’s paracounselling training to be conducted for six weekends by the counseling department. The trainin for staff members will be opened by Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Development and External Relations, Mr. Doug Fountain while Dr. Anne Tweheyo, Uganda Counsellors Association president, will open the students’ training.

By press time, 83 students and 50 staff members had registered for the free training that was expected to begin on 24th September.
“At times students don’t feel comfortable to open up to the staff, and they feel more comfortable opening up to fellow students.
The same thing happens to the staff. So this training empowers them with basic counseling skills that they can be able to help others both at university and outside,” says the university counsellor Joseph Musaalo.
The training will run on Saturdays only from 9am to 1pm until 5th November at Principal’s Hall for staff and Sabiti Hall for the students and the participants will be awarded with certificates.
Originally both students and staff trained together, but after the staff members grew in number, they requested to be trained separately. In May last semester, the staff training was launched by the Vice-Chancellor  Dr. John Senyonyi.
