Carol Kamya, a re-known film maker is expected to grace the launch of the UCU Film Club. The club that has been in existence for just under a month now will be launched on 28th May, 2010 at Nkoyoyo Hall starting at 7pm.
The student’s initiative is an association of aspiring film makers and actors that is under the watchful eye of the UCU’s department of Mass Communication but not a segment of the university. The organisers of the launch say a number of big wigs in the film industry shall be in attendance of the ceremony, notable amongst them will be Carol Kamya, and Maroushka Kanywani from Maisha film lab amongst others. Kamya is the proprietor of IVAD, a film recording studio, a writer, actress and director of ‘Imani’ a movie currently showing at Cineplex cinema. The club, still in its infancy is expected to be link between UCU’s aspiring film students and the real world. “We started the film club at UCU so as to create a platform for students to get inspiration from those in the field, we hope it will attain that objective,” said Eddie Oketcho, film club’s founder and spokesperson. The club that is hosted in UCU is not for Mass Communication students only but open to all. “Everyone is free to join us, though structures of admitting those outside of UCU have not yet been established.” “At the moment, the Film Club is only open to students of UCU of whatever discipline as long as they have interest in film, but in future we hope to spread our reach to places other than university campuses and schools. Oketcho said. The function that is expected to start at 7pm has attracted a lot of Kampala’s talent as far as film is concerned. “The evening will also act as a meeting point for faculty and film crews alongside students and to crown it all, students will get an opportunity to either watch Kamya’s latest movie, Imani, or procure tickets to view the movie at Cineplex cinema. |
