Just a month after its official launch, the UCU Film Club is heading for bigger things. Upon successfully holding a scriptwriting workshop on June 19, the club has plans for even more projects to be launched on the campus soon.
The club has lately started up a weekly news broadcast code named “Campus Television” (CTV) airing out news from around the University community. The broadcast runs every Wednesday from 7:30pm at the dining hall. The “television’s” news screw is composed of Film Club personalities like Eddie Oketcho (BAMC 2), Patrick Seruyange (BAMC I), Charity Atukunda (BIFA 2), Brian Wojega (BLIS I) and John Paul Kangave (BAMC I). Others are Emmanuel Kivunike, Chris Kayonga, Andrew Ayebale and Gloria Kiconco all of Mass Comm. The crew covers stories ranging from life style, news, features, and sports. According to Patrick Seruyange the “station’s” Program Director, the group started a month ago and has so far done four weekly news broadcasts. “We hope to continue doing this weekly even next semester.” said Seruyange. However, Seruyange adds that the station’s only setback is the lack of equipment like computers, video cameras and recorders to assist in the coverage. He also appealed to more interested students to join the news crew. “It calls for sacrifice and dedication to produce a program, so those hoping to join the news crew should be in position to answer the questions of sacrifice and dedication,” added Seruyange. In a related development, the film club is planning a multi-million mega film festival early in September. “The festival will target university students around the country, high school students and Cooperate social companies” revealed Eddie Oketcho the club’s president. Asked how the toddler club will secure finances for such a big project given that the members are students, Oketcho is quick to respond that it’s true the club’s financial muscle is weak but the vision must continue. “We believe that the biggest problem is not the money, but the dream. With the vision that we have as Film Club, we know that financial provisions will come,” he concludes. |
