Do not discard your work

Guild General Secretary, Jeff Oloo (left) shows off some of the pieces of Art to colleagues at the guild office last week.

It takes a lot of time, concentration and energy to come up with a good piece of art work.
The outcome is always costly from the experience I have had from art galleries and exhibitions in town.

To others, art makes ends meet by putting food on the table.
Jeff Oloo, UCU Guild Government’s Secretary General, last week salvaged some beautiful art pieces from a heap of trash left outside the LR classroom block.
“There is a lot of potential and these individuals should look beyond exhibiting at UCU only but also look outside, like at Theatre Labonita.” Oloo said.
“Trends are changing and white collar jobs are no-where today, people should learn to survive on their talent.” Oloo added.
Carol Mududa the secretary to the UCU tribunal when asked to comment about the discarded art pieces said “in art a mistake is a design.”
Turyakira Mike and Muhumuza Patrick both of BSWASA II concurred with her and added that people should learn to conserve the environment and should not waste the costly resources involved in making art pieces.
“Let’s learn to conserve and nurture our talents by simply appreciating the little things we do.” Muhumuza said.
At the close of last semester, the department of fine art subjected its students of Industrial Fine Arts to an exhibition as a means of show casing their work before graduation and also as a prerequisite for the award of a degree. While some of the works were exceptionally good, mediocre pieces were also present but it did not call for them being discarded at the venue
The pieces that Oloo picked up from the LR classroom block are exceptionally beautiful and they now grace the gloom walls of the students’ guild office. Who knows, in future the guild offices ‘gallery’ may be open for general viewing and the guild may decide to hold its own exhibitions for students.
