You will make it

You have walked the journey right from nursery school to where you are. To many of you, it has not been easy. The desire to write this letter came after I was approached by six first- year students. Their inquiries were about how they could easily leave the courses they have been given.

When I asked them why they wanted to change their courses, they gave me varying answers. One told me that his father forced him to apply for law because his father and two elder brothers were lawyers. Another one told me that his uncle had suggested to him to apply for BBA because he was soon starting a private company in which he plans to employ him. The third student told me as he wanted to change to a course that would lead him to a well-paying job. As for the fouth student, she wanted to change because most of her friends are in the course she wants.

Though I never gave them definite answers, all I told them was that changing was possible. I am sure that many of you are in such a dilemma. One thing I can assure you of is that no one knows you better than yourself. If you know what you want, go for it. All answers to what we want to become lie deep inside us. If you were lured into a course that you do not want, you can still change into that one you love. If you are unable to change, then go ahead and give it your best. I have seen people who have done courses they have never dreamt of butstill they have made it in life. Never think only within the course you have been offered. Think outside the box. Better still, if you have not decided, seek guidance from Lecturers or the Careers Office. Otherwise, I wish you all the best.
