Welcome to UCU, but take care

The most exciting thing on earth is moving to a new environment and place, but this comes hand in hand with visiting the best place in the world.
It is good to join Uganda Christian University, “a centre of excellence in the heart of Africa.” Believe me, when you have made a life-changing choice.

This being your first semester in university, you must be having high hopes and expectations. These will materialise when you make the best use of your time at university.
My advice to you is, remain comfortable and feel at home while at UCU because this is the best university you can ever go to.
However, while at UCU, be ware of conmen around campus. Always walk in groups around campus  especially at night. I know what it means to be a new student.
As you get involved in co-curricular activities, endeavour to read because it is the essence of your joining the university. Get rid of bad company because this might be the source of your failure in life.
Welcome to Uganda Christian University. God Bless you.

You have goals to achieve at the end of your stay here.
To the serious, you may get that first class or second class upper degree.
Time and again, I have seen students who toil in books and never get time to rest. I am not writing to deter you from pursuing your dreams.
As the new university motto says, "A Complete Education for a Complete Person", I would think that it is better for you to prepare yourself for the uncertainties that you are likely to encounter in life. Add value to that degree you are pursuing for you to become a complete person.
Recently, I was assigned  to cover a story. The moderator called upon one of the RDCs to invite the chief guest. Surprisingly, he could hardly say a word. Having tried several times in failure, he just sat down and the audience burst into laughter. It is not that he lacked what to say to the chief guest. His problem was that he could not express himself in front of the audience.
There are things you will never be taught in lecture rooms but you need to teach them to yourself. Communication skills, time management, public etiquette, writing skills, interpersonal skill commitment, creativity, flexibility, discipline and many more are those the world will never excuse you for your ignorance.
The university has provided opportunities to enable all students to developthemselves.
Instead of burying yourself into one thing, teach yourself  more than you are being  taught. No venture, no gain. One caution though: do not become a Jack of all trades yet a master of none. Will you go that extra mile and stand out?

Dear new students, welcome to Uganda Christian University. I want to thank you for coming. I want to also thank you for dressing decently. I encourage you to continue doing it so that our image as a universityshines.
I also urge all th the people in this community to help advise those students dress indecently. To new students, watch out for peer pressure. Many of our students end up being misled by their counter parts. A number of girls and boys have been misled into losing property, money and sometimes even ending up being raped.
I call upon everyone to help this young generation.May the living God continue to give more counsel and guidance to this community.

Nsubuga Nelson Henry.
Senior Custodian.
