USP students leave soon. The Standard caught up with them on their experiences while in Uganda. ERICA LUTCHER (Christian Ministries) The people here are very generous and hospitable, I felt very welcome. The country is very beautiful and of course it was different being here. My greatest challenge was washing clothes with my hands. And yes, hopefully I would love to come back someday. BRITNEY SMITH (Children’s Ministry) I am used to being surrounded by my own kind of environment but this was like getting out of my own comfort zone. And it has been a good experience. People here are friendly; they welcome you, and want to talk to you and know more about you. I was first in Kenya in 2006 for two weeks and had a different perspective but staying here for these months has helped me broaden my views of Africa. DANIELLA MURI (Christian Ministry) I have learnt so many things I didn’t expect to. The culture here is different; I got an opportunity to live with a family in Kawuga and it has been wonderful. The one thing I will definitely take back with me is the relationships I have built with my teamates and friends I have made here. JACOB BOWDOIN (Biblical Studies) I have learned a lot about how God works in people’s lives and it has been challenging to see different viewpoints. My whole experience was a change of lifestyle. I have been living with a family in Bugujju and that has been the biggest part of my relationship here. And the students here have been very friendly. CODY SHERRY (Youth Ministry) Of course I miss home; it’s been hard being away from friends and family. But I have had experiences here-great experiences worth remembering. What I will take with me is a correct view of the African culture. And the general out look. Many Americans are of the view that Africans live in huts. I lived with a family here and I can ably explain different. Plus I have met really friendly people here. The 28 students on the exchange programme from different universities in America will leave for the United States early May.
