Interview with USP students

USP students leave soon. The Standard caught up with them on their experiences while in Uganda.

ERICA LUTCHER
(Christian Ministries)
The people here are very generous and hospitable, I felt very welcome. The country is very beautiful and of course it was different being here. My greatest challenge was washing clothes with my hands. And yes, hopefully I would love to come back someday.
BRITNEY SMITH (Children’s Ministry)
I am used to being surrounded by my own kind of environment but this was like getting out of my own comfort zone. And it has been a good experience. People here are friendly; they welcome you, and want to talk to you and know more about you.  I was first in Kenya in 2006 for two weeks and had a different perspective but staying here for these months has helped me broaden my views of Africa.
DANIELLA MURI (Christian Ministry)
I have learnt so many things I didn’t expect to. The culture here is different; I got an opportunity to live with a family in Kawuga and it has been wonderful. The one thing I will definitely take back with me is the relationships I have built with my teamates and friends I have made here.
JACOB BOWDOIN (Biblical Studies)
I have learned a lot about how God works in people’s lives and it has been challenging to see different viewpoints. My whole experience was a change of lifestyle. I have been living with a family in Bugujju and that has been the biggest part of my relationship here.
And the students here have been very friendly.
CODY SHERRY (Youth Ministry)
Of course I miss home; it’s been hard being away from friends and family.
But I have had experiences here-great experiences worth remembering.
What I will take with me is a correct view of the African culture.
And the general out look.
Many Americans are of the view that Africans live in huts.
I lived with a family here and I can ably explain different.
Plus I have met really friendly people here.

The 28 students on the exchange programme from different universities in America will leave for the United States early May.
