Community hour with USP

March 28th noon was no ordinary Community Hour at Nkoyoyo Hall.
Students under the Uganda Studies Programme (USP) would lead the hour.

A mixture of curiosity and evident excitement swept through the congregation as the foreign students walked to the stage. When the music started, it was different from the usual heavy beat African type that usually sends its listeners into wild episodes of uncoordinated dance moves.
And no, it was not Uncle Dan, the music director, in charge of the instruments this time round. From the keyboard to the guitars and drums it was USP students. Thankfully all the music was put on the projector for all to sing along.
Those who had heard of the songs before simply confirmed the words while others struggled to marry the rhythm with the lyrics.
As the music went on, one by one everybody got sorted. Those who found the music a little different simply nodded, tapped their feet and moved to the music.
The worship team turned out not to be so different.
One could hear ululations here and there; see rare dance moves here and there, a little bit of jumping and nervous glances like to ask one’s neighbour:  Am I in synch with the rest of you? But their own excitement could not be hidden as they worked the crowd, determined to enjoy it all the way. And they did.
Then there came ballet dancing done by Daniella Muri and Caitlyn Black. Simply put, from the way brethren took in the pair’s graceful dance moves, it was beautiful!
Yet another dance came, this time from the group, Survivor; a music mix of ballet and lingala. Brethren cheered as the team danced to the Congolese rhythm  of worship. By the end, some were heard to say: “We want another rap.”
