Fun tea times

Eric WereThese days I find I can’t  do without break  tea at the Estates sanctuary. Then am drawn to partake of the cheer and good earthiness there. Things that  remind warmly of life at my grandmother’s farm in more than one way.
The teas are always an energizing scene of hiving blue overalls and black gumboots like any true workers’ mess.
Then after the serving, when everyone finally  settles to their cup of milk , conversation  begins to thrive.  At some moments when most will be buried in their private thoughts and  the  ‘king’ will throw  his provocations onto the gathering, the tent –with  form benches and single table- usually has the nice nascence of a primary school play . At others the scene is close to an Irish pub. Slapping handshakes, friendly fights, gripping excitement , buzzing conversation fill it and might drown the ‘king’ . Everyone lets him be. He is probably the most eccentric of characters the tent has but then absolutely everyone  lets loose at tea time.
Close to the only other thing that excites as much are mummy Fredah’s tender stories like about Issa, who can’t read or write and is worried because his boss’ cheques that come through the handle of a middle man keep coming with the pay less and less with each passing month.
