One of the most crucial parts of a tree-- the roots-- is what keeps it rooted in
the ground. Interestingly, this part remains hidden beneath. Isn’t it amazing? One time someone found me reading my own work in The Standard paper and they wondered, “How come you are reading what you wrote?”I sheepishly looked at them with a smile on my face. The reason why I love reading this column is because this is the edited version of what I actually write. In other words, someone works behind the scenes to make me appear a great writer! Interestingly, those who read my works, never ask about the editor! Like the roots of a tree, though unseen, the Editor plays a very crucial role. Teachers impart knowledge on people who later change the world. News editors groom award-winning writers/journalists. Coaches train players into the dream team. Behind great men stand ever-patient wives. I could go on and on but my point is, no matter what kind, never be tempted to think your work is pointless just because you are not the one getting the cheers and handshakes. It is because you are that they are and the reverse is true. So as the ‘behind-- the scenes-- worker,’ give your job your best shot. Someone’s success depends on you. And to those that take the credit, if you have not been, say ‘thank you’ more often. God bless you. |
