Reverend Charles Raven, priest of Christ’s Church, England has said
Christians should work to restore the house of God. “Today we have problems in the Anglican communion because the global family has become disorderly and disorganized. “There is lots of chaos, ambiguity and moral confusion in the West. Because of this we are looking for new missionaries from Africa to be part of the Anglican mission to England, said Raven. According to The Independent, a British newspaper, the man of God astounded the Church of England in 2002 when he banned the Bishop of Worcester, Dr. Peter Selby, after a bitter row over his parish bishop’s "un-biblical" views on the ordination of practising homosexuals and same-sex marriages. Raven later left St. John’s Kidderminster Church and has now set up an alternative place of worship that advocates for a return to the traditional ways of the church. Teaching at Nkoyoyo Hall on Tuesday July 12, Raven expressed concern that many Christians today do not know what it is like to be a part of the family that God intended them to be. “There are people in England who no longer see a problem with two men getting married and even serving as bishops in the Church. And this is not only a problem in the West. It is becoming a global problem because of the UN’s stand on human rights.” Raven warned that because the Church has become dysfunctional, many people are leaving it.He said the Anglican Church in the western world is now looking out for a new leadership- in what he described as “the new wineskin,” courtesy of the Global Anglican Future Conference (GAFCON). The GAFCON movement started after a 2008 meet of 1,148 Anglican leaders from all over the world in Jerusalem. Top on the agenda were concerns that there is promotion of a false gospel with in the Anglican Communion, which denies the uniqueness of Jesus Christ and instead "promotes a variety of sexual preferences and immoral behaviour as a universal human right". In attendance were our very own Archbishop Henry Luke Orombi and the Vice Chancellor Dr. John Senyonyi. Raven said some churches in England say only Jesus is the revelation and not the Bible, saying it has mistakes and errors. But Jesus cannot be separated from the Bible, for it “inspires and draws us close to God.” He maintained that the Christian faith was built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets and Jesus himself the cornerstone that holds everything together. He reasoned that oneness in Christ should only be through the unchanging truth of Jesus and his holiness. The English priest assured Christians that the gospel is not a British thing; it just so happened that the British brought the message of Christ to Africa and the rest of the world. “Britain now needs you to come back and remind us of what we have forgotten,” Raven said. |
