Be ware ! the thief

Most of us have known thieves to be people who come and take away our property usually without our notice.
The improvement of technology has made the thief even much brighter. Now we have conmen, hackers, and burglars, to mention a few, who all essentially do the same thing: Steal!
Recently, I discovered a new breed of the thief that can’t be stopped by the police and yet is found everywhere! Campus, church, workplaces, hospitals, everywhere!  This kind doesn’t come for money or physical possessions. I am talking about the thief who steals our hope and motivation.
The other day I talked to a friend about a course which I would be taking this semester. They had pursued the same course the previous semester. This was the response I received,“Ho! Eyo nno era weetegeke!” (meaning: Goodness, be prepared!) The expression on his face suggested I prepare for the worst.
This friend probably said the words with no malice aforethought. But such words could steal my hope and motivation for excellence. The thief!
Some people are out there to steal your hope and deter your motivation. Some of their best phrases are, “Okaguddeko!” “Ofudde!” “Ho!” among others.
They may even be your close friends, your relatives or whoever: They simply tend to leave you more discouraged when you approach them for any sort of advice.
I call these people thieves. My reason is simple: They steal our reason to fight harder, which is our motivation! They steal our faith.
However, here is the antidote for such thieves. As soon as they begin to lament about the impossibility of something, firmly let them know that you are not scared whatever the challenges that characterise the journey to success.
I am not trying to say that people who point out the challenges ahead of us are wrong elements, no. I am saying that those who point these out ought to do it wisely in order not to steal our hope and motivation.
Let me know of how something is hard; but more than this, show me that I can do it if I work harder; build my faith rather than crush it.
Listen, life as a journey is a hard one. Every aspect that falls therein is difficult: Yes, some relationships have failed, some students have failed and some businesses have failed.
But then, there are those that have flourished! Therefore, whatever you set out to do, give it your best shot; fight your hardest; yes, you can win. It may be hard, but you can. Ignore the words of the thief; go for it! May God bless you.
