Lent no hunger strike-Baalwa

UCU chaplain, Rev. Canon Frederick Baalwa has called on Christians to practice true fasting during this lent season, and not just go on a hunger strike.
Speaking to the Standard paper from his office the minister said the whole concept of fasting is denial of food or drinks in order to focus one’s attention on God.
He said the period is for self-examination, confession, repentance, conversion and recommitment.
“Some Christians go through this period without spending any real time with God. They don’t repent, read the word or show any concern for the less privileged. That is fasting with no essence,” Rev. Baalwa said.
Reverend Baalwa also asked Christians not to view the fasting period as an opportunity to force God into doing what they want.
He said that Christians should pray and fast while acknowledging God’s will in their lives: Adding that is an opportunity to practice what they believe.
“By the end of this period you should be a better person than when you started,” he said.
