Librarians get PhDs

 The UCU Library and Information Science fraternity had four people graduate with post graduate qualifications from Makerere University this January.

Sarah Kaddu (the BLIS head) and Frederick Mukungu, the university librarian graduated with Ph.Ds whereas Mary Nalumansi (staff at ICMI) and Lilian Mudola (staff in the library) graduated with masters degrees.
 Frederick Mukungu had a thanksgiving ceremony at St. Andrew’s Church Luzinga in Jinja district on 21 January. He enrolled for the course towards the end of 2004 and graduated in January 2010.
The title for his thesis was: Strategies for Enhancing Information Literacy among University Graduates in Uganda. It can be accessed on the Internet.
The research focused on developing strategies for enhancing information literacy (IL) among university graduates in Uganda so that they are able to continuously use information at their workplaces to update their knowledge with existing best practices for the country’s development. 
­­­He now has the Ph.D qualification to head a university library as required by the National Council for Higher Education.
