Uganda Christian University library has gone an extra mile in bridging the information gap by extending information services electronically.
In higher education and research, the use of a library is a matter of concern to all. The exponential growth of literature often creates difficulty on how to efficiently use the resources. The problem has been considerably resolved with the help of information and communication technology. The use of information technology in management and handling of information and data has grown significantly even in many least-developed countries. UCU annually pays a lot of money to ensure that its electronic resources in the library are accessed. In my opinion, we need to embrace new technology to increase on our knowledge base. It will not make sense for the university put in place resources and we don’t utilise them. Long ago, libraries treasured more the print materials like textbooks, journals, newspapers, and magazines. But with technology, things have changed. For example, the UCU Main Library and all its constituent colleges like Kampala, Kabale, Mbale and Arua have all been equipped to enable users to access the library electronic resources. |
