Four out of nine. Mbale Campus has demonstrated strong intent for excellence after producing four of the nine first class graduands during the final part of UCU 10th graduation last Friday.
"I am pleased with the way my students have performed. It is my first graduation at Mbale and out of the 38 students, four graduated with first class degrees," said Rev. Michael Okwii, Mbale Campus Director. 536 students were graduated, 281 of these were male and 255 females. The nine who were awarded first class degrees are Edward Basooma, Timothy Okolimo, Patrick Natumanya, Susan Namwaki, David Oyite Ojok, Herbert Ntende, Amos Ampomugisha, Magdalene Nambi and Safelesi Nambafu all excelled. This brings the total number of students passed out at the tenth graduation to over 3000. The fourth part of UCU graduations has been a preserve for a few students and was largely perceived as a special arrangement to accommodate students with problem cases. While noting that students with problem cases benefited from the arrangement, the Director of Teaching and Learning, Sylvia Kajubi said February graduation is part of UCU’s commitment to achieve high level effectiveness. "UCU runs a three-semester-system, and it is only logical that we hold three graduations a year. We don't want a situation where students finish their studies and wait for so long to get their documents," says Mrs. Kajubi.

The VC Prof. Noll noted that the February graduation is growing in strength largely because of new programmes that meet 'off schedule,' either by modules or on a 'May-September' semester sequence. One of the new programmes which he cited was Procurement and Logistics He added that the ceremony has also received a boost because of the large number of graduands in special "partnership programmes." |
