Archbishop Orombi

The Archbishop of the Church Of Uganda, The Most Rev. Henry Luke Orombi has called upon Ugandans to forgive and desist from revenge over the recent bombings in Kampala.

“I call upon each one of us to desist from anger and revenge; this will only perpetuate the pain we already feel. Revenge is not a solution and neither is a sectarian approach to this problem helpful,” Said Archbishop Orombi.
Orombi, who is also UCU’s Chancellor made the remarks last week at All Saints Church, at prayers held in memory of the more than 70 people who were killed at an Ethiopian Restaurant and Kyadondo Rugby Club by suspected suicide bombers.
This is the first violent terrorist attack in Uganda in the recent past and it was claimed by Al-Shabaab, an Islamism organisation fighting to topple the federal government of Somalia.
Uganda is part of an African Union peace mission in Somalia and has been engaged in running battles with Somali Islamists since early 2007.
The Islamists have carried out similar attacks in Somalia and this was the first ever attack claimed by the group outside of Somalia.
“This act of malice and hatred towards mankind is completely ungodly, especially towards innocent and unsuspecting persons,” said Orombi.
He added that he condemned the act and hoped that those involved are legally dealt with.
“I condemn this act in the strongest terms possible and hope to see the perpetrators of this hideous crime brought to justice.”
Al-Shabaab last month threatened to attack Uganda and Burundi for their involvement in Somali affairs but an attack of this magnitude was not anticipated.
Orombi explained that the Sunday incident was an attempt by the devil to undermine humanity.
“We must mourn because it is human but Jesus is in control of our lives. We pray for the bereaved, the injured and the survivors as well as our country for peace.”
Said the Archbishop, who led five other priests in the prayers where candles were lit in remembrance of lives lost.
