A thief was caught on November 17 trying to break into Little Angels Girls’ Hostel, Buguju. The thief who refused to reveal his name even after several beatings was arrested at around 2.30 am trying to sneak into the hostel.
He was arrested by the hostel security guard Ashraf Kawuki. Kawuki says he arrested the man after he saw him jump over a perimeter wall into the hostel's compound during the blackout. He confronted him and thereafter, the thief tried to fight him. “He hit me in the face when I tried to grab him but the good thing is that people came to my rescue when I raised an alarm," he said. Kawuki however managed to get hold of him while raising an alarm. Kawuki, who sustained bruises in the face and a minor injury on the left leg, said the thief came along with other people who were driving a car. When they heard their colleague struggle with him inside, they sped off. The thief said he had been brought by his colleagues to steal things from the girls rooms. He said that they had told him that the girls there had a lot of valuables to steal. People, including the girls who reside in the hostel came and started beating the thief until a police patrol car came and took him away. Little Angels' management said they later went and made a statement at the police station, but the the thief had been taken to the health centre for medical attention. |
