Cancer is the single leading cause of death worldwide today. Until a few decades ago, it was considered only a disease for the western world; this is not the case today. Coupled with malaria and Aids in Sub-Saharan Africa, the region has becomes a death valley for the people that live in it.

Last week, the Public Relations department of UCU conducted a week long sensitisation clinic for the people in Mukono and around the university so as to raise awareness for the control and prevention of cancer.
There are as many kinds of cancer as one can imagine, but the most notable ones being, prostate, lung and breast cancers among others.
Even though cancer is lethal it can be treated if detected early. The costs of treatment are, however, prohibitive.
Uganda Cancer Institute's Dr. Noleb Mugisha, however, says that the risk of cancer attacks and infections are higher in women than in men because of the constant production of certain hormones by women that promote the development of cancer.
The prevention of cancer or at least the reduction of the risk of getting cancer begins with an individual's way of life.
For instance, the kinds of food that we eat may contain more cholesterol that may be required or the consumption of Nicotine and Tar in cigarettes also accelerate the chances of getting lung cancer while prostate cancer can be checked with regular visits to your doctor.
