UCU’s community uses our deadly roads every day. Among the most deadly ones is Jinja Road known for its incredible ‘black spots.’ It was such a gut-wrenching experience to see pictures of four coffins of Daniel Mungyereza, his wife Lillian and their two children Jonathan and Nicole.
Death comes when we least want it. The smiling faces of that family in happier times reminded us all of how short life actually is. Those four deaths on our roads could have been avoided. The black spots are known. Some organisations do not allow their staff to drive at night since a lot of accidents tend to happen after 7:00pm. Speed has been mentioned time again as a killer. On Uganda’s roads the speed limit is 80km per hour. Beyond that, you begin to endanger your life and other road users. The black spots should be regularly patrolled by police and hefty fines given to lawbreakers who speed. We too should take our lives in our hand practicing defensive driving whenever we sense danger on the roads. All of us have a role to play to reduce carnage on our |
