We have had several health messages from the Allan Galpin Health Centre recently. One the biggest killer in Uganda is Malaria. Around the globe, about one million people die each year because of that disease yet it is preventable. Even when one contracts malaria, treatment from qualified personnel is available in most places.
Mosquito nets are available at a fee at the Alan Galpin Health Centre. Sleeping under an insecticide treated net may have its challenges but it saves a great deal. People complain of the discomfort. However, when one considers what a mosquito net saves you from, you have to maintain the discipline. The Allan Galpin Health Centre staff raised other issues including rabies. To think that it only takes an infected animal licking you to infect you with rabies is frightening. Those who have pets are encouraged to ensure that the animals are immunised against rabies. In case you are bitten, report immediately for treatment. |
