The first thing one notices about her is her love for books. She reaches out for a book in front of her and reads a page or two. Her reasoning is of a 20-year-old and when she peaks, her voice commands authority.

Patricia Nakiyemba, a daughter to Paddy Buyondo, a UCU tutor and photographer, excelled in last year’s PLE with seven aggregates.
She credits her success to a number of people, but none beats her father.
“He is a job maker and not a seeker,” she says of her dad, citing the story behind her father’s photo studio.
“He started the studio while in senior one and with the money he earned, he paid half of his school fees,” she said. With the hope of doing as much, or even better than her father, she aimed for the best in everything she did. Her hard work came with big rewards.
On the night she learned of her performance, her family was having diner in front of a TV set.  When the news of the results was aired, her father reached for his phone and sent a message to UNEB to find out his daughter’s results. Within a short time, the results were on his phone screen. Exciting!
“Dad asked me to guess my results before he could tell the rest of us,” she narrated. After several wrong guesses, her father told her the results that sent everyone in the house screaming. Later that night, her father called all his siblings to let them know of the good news.
Nakiyemba would do anything to go back to boarding school. She believes that pupils in day schools do not get to consult teachers after school hours, a habit that is common in boarding school. On the weekends, after doing her laundry, Nakiyemba would ask a teacher to go through a lesson that she needed help with.
When she joined Wobulenzi Boarding School, she was determined to catch up with the school activities and make helpful friends.
She was not scared of anything, not even the terrifying boarding school stories. When her fellow pupils told her of  ghosts that went to the dormitories at night and cut off pupils’ nails and hair, Nakiyemba  had one answer for them;
“Experience is the best teacher.”  She said that she would only have believed if she had had an encounter with the ghosts.
Unlike most of her relatives who are teachers, Nakiyemba wants to be a medical doctor or Civil Engineer.  Her interest in civil engineering started at a time when her parents hired someone to construct a kitchen in their home.
“I looked at the wall and I noticed it was slanting. I thought that I could have done a better job,” she said in a convincing tone. Given her interest in  mathematics, she may just be exactly what she wants to be- an Engineer.
The 12- year old enjoys reading books, story telling, playing football and baby sitting. Her ideal friends are those who help her in need and are smarter than her.
To those in primary school, she gives a list of advice; Read, pray, believe in yourself,  be up to challenges, avoid bad company, accept correction from others and take time
