The journey that started on part time at UCU has now seen him to one the Institution’s high positions, Dean of Faculty. Vincent Kisenyi, who joined UCU in 2000 as a Business Ethics Part-time lecturer, is now head at Faculty of Business and Administration.
“It is an honour to be entrusted by the University to head the faculty,” Kisenyi says about his new position. He adds, for a faculty that started with one degree and two Diplomas and later grew bigger, it is a challenge to take it to the next level. The faculty has over 2000 students and more than 50 lecturers, both at Kampala and main Campus. Kisenyi is aware that conforming to the trends of the faculty at international level of business given meagre resources is not a smooth path, but one possible by the Grace of God. For a person who likes taking on challenges, the office must be fit for him. One of the reasons he took on Accounts was because everyone saw it as a hard area to venture in. “I always took on the hardest things at school and explain them to my friends. That way, I would make them realise that they are actually easy,” he says. He went to Mwiri primary school, St. Mary’s College Kisubi for O’ & A’ level. Kisenyi read Bachelor of Business Administration and Management at Uganda Martyrs University, Nkozi and later went to University of Dundee in Scot land for a Master of Accountancy. Besides teaching, Kisenyi has been involved in different activities at UCU. He was the sports tutor from 2002- 2005, Chairman UCU sports Committee, Academic staff representative on the Health and Safety Committee, university finance advisory committee, Assurance and Graduation committees. His plans for the Faculty are to consolidate and improve what has been achieved, equip administrative staff with skills to perform, come up with viable programmes in the area of oil and gas, among others. “With guidance of DVC/ Academics, we hope to build more partnerships with other universities and professional bodies,” he adds. To the staff, Kisenyi says, cooperation and team work are central to success of the Faculty and a key to giving their best to their customers- the students. And to the students, hard work and cooperation with the lecturers will enable them to achieve their dreams. Kisenyi is married to Bridget and they have two sons. “ People should treasure the opportunity to work at UCU and not settle for the bear minimum,” he advises. |
