From a true African polygamous family coupled with its shortcomings, Patrick Aviku did not leave his success to fate but worked hard on his own to reach where he is. And now he is not a disappointed man, his hard work has earned him a first class degree with a GPA of 4.50.
Given the big number of children in his family and the meager earnings of his parents, Aviku’s academic life was no bed of roses. At times he would sit down and wonder what the future had for him because of his humble background. “I never had tuition but always depended on loans from financial institutions for the rest of my stay at university” recalls Aviku. Even with such hardships, Aviku has no regrets for coming from such a background, “I am sure certain things happen to us because God wants us to have a testimony in life, so I have no regrets, in fact I am proud to have come from such a background” he says with confidence. “There is no way I could come here and waste my time, I had to work hard and put a smile on my parent’s face because they toiled a lot to see me through me.. But Aviku is bitter about students who come to campus and waste them selves in non issues instead of concentrating on books. “I came from a little known family, no body could even trace it but see now I am an academic hero, a celebrity and I am more popular than those who used to boast that they come from rich families” boasts Aviku of his academic achievement. For some students even after excelling, their main worry still remains combing the streets for jobs but this is an exception with Aviku who has confidence in himself even though he has not got a job yet. “How can I come this long way and still be worried of what tomorrow holds, never! I know there is light at the end of the tunnel, a job will present itself” Aviku was motivated by his uncle Charles Endraa, a retired Deputy Director of National Library of Uganda. He attended Arua Demonstration Primary School and Nvara SS for both Ordinary and Advanced levels. |
