Vivian Akello BCDCM

When an opportunity meets an idea, the result is success and that is what the 22 year old Vivian Akello is proud of as she walks away from UCU with a first class degree in Bachelor of Child Development and Children’s Ministry on this year’s last part of the 11th graduation.

The first born in a family of six scored a GPA 4.47 to become a top female student in her course. She attended Kyambogo Primary School, Iganga S.S and later Gombe S.S for her A’ levels.
Just like any other child from a humble background, Akello could not have made it through had it not been for Compassion International that paid her school fees right from kindergarten to university through its Leadership Development Program.
“My life was on the rocks but when Compassion International started sponsoring me, I got a relief” said a soft spoken Akello but also God was on my side, I dedicated most of my free time to ministry and I am glad it has paid off.
Akello says two things have shaped her destiny; knowing God and having positive friends around her. She is so passionate about children especially the African child who is still bound my the chains of poverty
“My heart beats for children who are on the streets, whose talent, potential is still under the captivity of poverty” she laments as she bows down her head in disbelief. It is perhaps this passion that has made her channel all her energies and dreams to owning a children’s ministry in future.
Akello is inspired by Joyce Myer a renowned American preacher because of her passion for God and the people. “Besides being a woman of God, she also has a wealth of knowledge, I admire her”
To the students at UCU, Akello says walking in the fear of God, knowing where you come from and remaining focused will see you through.
