As many of his peers were using their closets for the intended purpose, keeping clothes, Ashe Sebulime used his for storing his Art material. It was later in second year that he realised he needed more than just a closet or a small drawer he had acquired to keep his work.
“I got some of my lunch allowance and rented a place in bugujjo, which I turned into an art studio,” he said. Ashe was aware that renting space as a student was going to require a lot from him but he had to work toward his career. Opening up an art studio in bugujjo also paved a way for him to teach others to be creative artists, different from everyone else. Ashe was inspired by his mother who is also an artist. He started reading art literature and assuring himself that he’d the most creative artist the world could ever have. The GPA of 4.62 is no surprise for a man who has lived, dreamt and thought of art. “Selling my art pieces to people in Norway, UK and around, made me realise that I was headed for the best in my career,” he said. By the end of his first year, his results were good enough for him to expect the best out of the effort that he put in. One of the people who inspired him was his brother who told him to look at his time at university as the talent point. ‘It’s at university where you get the greatest in life and decide who you will be tomorrow,” he said. To students, he advises, ‘take advantage of your coursework because it adds a lot to your final performance,” he adds that everyone has an opportunity to make the future bright and with creativity, it’s possible. In the next five years, Ashe hopes to be a public image for artists through his life changing works of art.
