“I knew I would excel but still it was not obvious that I would get a first class,” Martha Mukama said about her performance. The Bachelor of Languages graduate majored in French, a language she has embarrassed since childhood.” I want to be a translator some day and I French was the best language I could ever think of,” she said.
After failing to get a place at Makerere Business School in the languages Department, Mukama joined UCU and enrolled for a Bachelors of Languages Course in 2007. However, the course she had undertaken was not fully equipped with books and other materials since it was new at the university. “We were not aware of the course units in our department and some course units started as late as mid semester,” she said Martha however, did not let this stand in her way to success. She worked with limited resources, researched and she gladly walks away with GPA 4.42. As leaves UCU and embarks on another journey to upgrade her French with Alliance’ Francias, Mukama carries with her memories of a place she calls ‘wonderful.’ “I have enjoyed this university as a resident student, because of all the facilities like, the library, water, security, power, that provided for my needs and all I needed to do was to concentrate on my academic work,” she said. |
