After a successful season that saw the UCU FC crowned champions in the zonal-mini league, six of its highly ranked players including  one Free Stars player were selected for Masaza Cup.
This is a tournament organized and played among the 21 counties of Buganda.
Players are selected from different teams to form county teams without any restrictions on race and tribe except one has to be a resident of Buganda region.
The tournament is aimed at improving talent in each county. Furthermore, it is a tool to market players for professional football locally and internationally.
The three-month tournament ends in September, with 21 teams involved in the meet.
Zonal mini-league’s top scorer of 81 goals and UCU striker James Omoda was posted to play for Kyaggwe together with his goalkeeper Hannington Lule and Jimmy Mwera. Following their discipline and devotion, Lule and Omoda were accorded captain and vice, respectively. The team has gathered 16 points over the seven games played.
The other four were called to Bugerere FC: Norman Lumago, Lawrence Mazaki, striker Paul Kangave and Free Stars Kenny Kayira.
Two of the UCU’s players have been sported by Kampala City Council and will involve in the activities of the club after completion of their studies. Omoda and Lule, all doing law and in their last semester, will now upgrade their skills, come next year.
Meanwhile, the UCU soccer team is likely to suffer a big blow since most of the players on the First Eleven will be completing their studies. The team is likely to do without Lule, Omoda, Moses Semakula, Edward Kaziro, John Kyemeze and Edson Adapawo.
