I used to think that the tendencies of heroic stature in
a sport were static. But I was wrong. The Lady Doves earlier seen as underdogs rose to fame as Nkumba, the so-called heroes came roaring down like debris. The Lady Doves silenced defending champions Nkumba in the first and second-leg league games 3-0 and 3-2 respectively in the on-going league. The ladies beat the defending champions as well as archrivals Ndejje on Sunday, July 3. Any UCU diehard watching the game from its on-set would have gone away in disappointment after the first and second sets. The devastating 25-14 loss in the first set and a deafening 2-0 set score would deter the oomph to fight for a win in the best of five set aggregate. The queen fighters revved past Nkumba to take the lead on a 3-2 ultimate set count. Despite the absence of MVP Julia Sakaya, a perfect substitute of Florence Inyakoit was fitted, to enable the Doves bring the game to victory. “The Ladies exhibited maturity and fought relentlessly against Nkumba. They have maintained the lead and are on course to finish the league unbeaten,” said coach Nason Bwesigye. However, the men’s side lost to Nkumba 3-0 during their first second-leg league game that played on the same day. Having led all the three sets, they lacked a steady finish, letting Nkumba claim the win on a stretched set-point count. |
