The Badminton Development Programme league officials, players and well-wishers gathered at Entebbe Social Hall on July 24 for a  thankgiving service before the games started.
The service was dedicated to the PR boss Nauraline Nassimbwa and team-mate Rosette who were involved in the July 10 accident along Entebbe Road.
“On branching off the highway to the Social Hall, I unfastened my seat belt, knowing I had reached. In a twinkle of an eye we were rammed into,” narrated Nassimbwa. She then emphasized the importance of seat belts. “In the process of trying to hold on to something as the car rolled over and over, my hand flapped out and the car rested on it,” she explained concerning the compound fracture in her right arm.
The games kicked off at 3pm with men’s singles. Allan Muwaya of UCU Pilots was wrongly marked to lose 2-0 to Herbert Ebayo of MUK A on sets of 21-12 and 21-9. Most of the Pilot’s spikes were seen flying out of the play area. However, in ladies singles, the Pilots earned a point through Jackie Kobusinge who flumped down Aisha of YK 2-0 to the under ten set-point.
Muwaya’s of the Pilots teamed up in the doubles men against MUK A’s Ebayo and Yakubu Musisi. The Pilots succumbed to a 2-0 loss of 21-10 and 21-12. The experienced MUK A was flexible and agile to put up a spectacular show in the round robin league game.
The Pilots earned a walk-over after State House YK failed to field players in both the mixed doubles and ladies doubles. The captain commended the team for the drastic improvement both during training and in games. “The team has shown a great improvement especially in picking, shooting and driving shuttles. But still there is a long way to go,” said Captain Ronnie Byaruhanga.
The table standings defined Entebbe B coming first with 4points followed by the Pilots, Ndejje University and MUK A, all with 3points. While State House YK, Entebbe A and MUK A dragged with 2points each. The next meet is set for August 7 at Entebbe Social Hall.
