The volleyball fraternity is getting seasoned ahead of the UCU Volleyball Open Tournament set for 2-3 September. The annual tournament will be played at the UCU sports complex with both clubs and institutions gathering for the meet.
The two teams had a couple of its players serving suspensions after they exhibited indiscipline. The poor show greatly affected the team during the National Championships that were played on the third and fourth September in Mbarara. “We did not have most of our players but it is a good show for the play-offs,” said coach Tom Amou. The lady Doves were eliminated in the semis after losing to the eventual winners Nkumba University by 3-1, while the men’s team surrendered at the preliminaries after two successive losses to KCCA 3-2, KAVC 3-0. The league’s silver medalists will battle it out with Ndejje University in the semi-finals of the Uganda Volleyball League while Kampala Amateur Volleyball Club will clash with Nkumba University in the best of the five-set series. “I expect us to beat Ndejje with least difficulty and whoever comes our way to this championship,” said Amou. |
