Ahead of the intervarsity games in December at Ndejje University, the ladies soccer coach Tonny Membe and the Sports Minister Ben Wacha have organized an inter-faculty tournament from 15-30 September to scout for talent. The games will be played on the new pitch starting at 4:45pm each day.
“We want to build a team that will effectively compete in the Independence Cup, come October,” said Membe.
Six faculties have been grouped into two, A and B. Education, Law and Business are in A, while the Faculty of Science and Technology (FOST), Mass Communication and Social Sciences are in B. The first two from each group will qualify for the semi-finals and finals thereafter.
“We want to extrude the underlying talent and nurture it. As well, it is a good way to absorb the new students into the UCU sports community,” said Membe.
The lawyers will open the arena in a match against Education on September 15 while SWASA will engage FOST the next day.
