The UCU men netball team is likely to qualify for the East Africa Club Netball Championships if they keep up the good course.
The team has registered an unbeaten run in the first leg and has registered a good start in the second leg after snatching the lead from Kampala University Volleyball Club on 33-32.
This was during the Uganda Netball League played at Nakivubo on September 14.
“It was an after-rain game, and we started off on a very slow note with the opponent dominating the first three quarters. We won the game by one point in the last minute,” said coach Nelson Bogere.
Kampala University maintained a six- point lead in the first and second sets before UCU closed down the gap to two points of 24-25. The team, however, missed the services of their goal defender Jacob Isabirye who doubles as a volleyball player soon to join the team. The coach also noted with concern the lack adequate finances in running the affairs of the team most especially commuter services.
Five men’s teams are competing for the first and second place which will automatically merit them for the East Africa Club Netball Championships to be held next year April in Uganda.
The coach Nelson Bogere is optimistic about both teams and said they are ready to verse the defending champions Prisons.
