The UCU soccer team which emerged champions in the Mukono 1st Division League is now eager to compete in the Regional League which starts on October 28.
This is a tougher level of competition. In preparation the coaches Jackson Nyiima and Mark Twinamasiko have had new and more talented players join the team. Besides, they have shared the responsibility of coaching according to the positions of play and play systems. Nyiima who is the head coach will impart goal keeping and defense skills while Twinamasiko will be responsible for the mid-fielders and the forwards.
The team has registered 20 players out of the 25; the remaining five will be fitted in during the season.
Following the new and promising signings, there is a high possibility that they will qualify for the big league, according to Twinamasiko.
“We know it is tight but we are not going to lower our expectations. We are looking forward to the Super Division League,” said Twinamasiko.
Apparently four of the players who were prospected to leave have been retained James Omoda, Norman Lumago, John Kyemeze and Edward Kaziro.
These will team up with the new signings Philip Achelayi from Gulu United, Andrew Sempatya Kampala Campus, Fred Wejuli and Kenneth  Kayira from Free Stars in representing the university in the league.
The unit has been training together for two months and is expected to be ready when the league kicks-off.
“We have been loading both in strengthening exercises by coach Timothy Kabuye and also doing more fitness drills,” said Twinamasiko.
UCU among three others Seeta United, Mpoma Tigers and Mukono United will represent Mukono.
