The Lady Canons gave a sweep to the Magic Stormers at the first round of the playoff best of five series. The games are being played at the YMCA in Wandegeya and expected to end by mid-December.
The Canons dominated the three games after beating the Stormers 66-36, 76-35 and 84-45 to make it three straight wins. “We have enough time to plan for the finals since there are still more games to be played, UCU is the home of this championship and we are shall defend it,” Angela Namirimu captain of Canons said. The ladies are eager to play the winner between KIU and KCCA. So far KCCA has taken command of the series after beating KIU 2-0 in the playoff series. The team is welled with experience, size and team play, a prerequisite for top class performers. Brenda Mbone and Namirimu are dependable players oozing with speed high endurance and confidence. This gives the sized lorrain Akinyi Purity Adhiambo and Macline Akello easy time on the post and in assists. The team is likely to miss the services of these big sizes during the intervarsity games bearing their ineligibility in this level of competitions. In the other news both JV and the Canons men have to battle it out and win the remaining games if they are to qualify for the finals. The JV team has won one of the two games against Rez Life and is headed for the decisive game in best of three Second Division semi-finals. While, the Canons engaged in heated top division league games against warriors taking a 2-1 command in the best of five league series. “We are determined to fight harder in our next games. We were calm and composed with team work. However, we lost so many free throws Aand that worked against us,” said Okwako Martin, the Canons’ captain. |
