Canons' Okello in actionBoniface Okello is the new coach of the Lady Canons team just weeks after he was signed as Canons forward from Miracle Eagles. Okello was appointed coach after Emmanuel Samanya (appointed mid-semester) decided to pull out. According to the Sports Director, Dale Scully, Samanya found it hard to commute from Kampala for training session.
“But Okello is already here as a Canons’ player and will do a good job. I watched him coaching and I was impressed,” Scully said.
Okello is the only FUBA player who has won two back to back titles. In 2005 and 2006, with Nkumba Marines, 2010 and 2011 with Miracle Eagles.
Lady Canon players who were skeptical about Okello’s ability to handle a top team are picking up confidence slowly after the first training sessions.
The Ladies reported that he “seems to know what he is doing from the training he has taken us through” but the ultimate test is yet to come when the FUBA League starts on April 7.
Meanwhile, the new Lady Canons’ signing, Sandra Munduru, is the assistant coach of Lady Canons. The former A1 Challenge shooting guard is ecstatic about her new roles.
“I am honoured andlooking forward to learn from them, not just as a basketball player, but as ladies growing up in this this world,” she said.
