The UCU Shepherds are the first team to start serious training at an early stage. The defending champions are anticipating friendly games in February before the University league games kick off. Shepherds are still highly confident about retaining the title, which was gained from last years’ incredible performance.
The general expectation from the team is “we have to win again”. “We have the same expectation that we have always had which is winning. Without winning, we are like any other team,” said playmaker Timothy Byaruhanga. According to Byaruhanga, there are no league favourites except the Shepherds. “We don’t see any major contenders that can put up a fight against us,” Byaruhanga said. Shepherds captain Andrew Omoding shares the same confidence in his team. Omoding revealed that their linchpin is team building during this early pre season training. “In this training, we are focusing at strengthening the team with new players since most of the players are in third year,” Amoding said. As last year’s MVP, he is most likely to sacrifice his title for he intends to watch on the sidelines this season so that other players especially new players get a chance to shine on the field. “I do not want to play a lot because other people too should come up,” Omoding said. The IT finalist wants to be proud of the squad at all times. “I want to build the squad so that I wil still be proud of even when I leave,” he admitted. |
