Memo to Staff and Students

To: The Uganda Christian University Community – Staff and Students

Greetings in Christ Jesus our reigning LORD.

I am writing to assure you that you continue to be in my heart, and I lift you in prayer before God often as we all face this COVID-19 Lockdown. I share Samuel’s words,Moreover, as for me, far be it from me that I should sin against the Lord by ceasing to pray for you, and I will instruct you in the good and the right way.I also thank you for your prayers.

However, I counsel you to be thankful even now. God’s face is not hidden from us; He has been with us in the past and He has not departed from UCU. The last three months are a passing phase and we must not grow despondent or allow present destitutions to hide how God has been present with us in the past.

I shall soon hand over leadership of our University, but UCU will not cease to exist in my heart, and I hope in yours as well. When I gave notice more than three years ago, I little knew God would overrule all my plans for a seamless transition. Man plans “but it is the purpose of the LORD that will stand” (Proverbs 19.21).

During the three months, I have engaged Government several times, especially in my capacity as Chairman of the Uganda Vice Chancellors Forum, trying to discover a way forward so that universities can reopen. I have also sought support from His Excellency the President. Gradually, there appears to be a merging of paths, and I remain hopeful. We cannot grow weary.

Because of you, a Christian University such as UCU has won enviable respect in our nation for her leadership in higher education. Our graduates have distinguished themselves on the market. I believe our Mission, “To Equip Students for Productive, Holistic Lives of Christian Faith and Service” is being realized. Today, we are proud to publicly claim UCU as our place of work and/or study. Let us not lose sight of this achievement as we face the current challenges.

May the God of Peace and Provider of all our needs supply every need of yours and may He glorify Himself in this University. Amen.
